Pedia ward rotation just started and I guess I can confirm na I'm a toxic clerk especially to the number of patients! When I was on my second emergency pedia duty, I admitted 4 patients in a day. And I disregarded the thought that I'm toxic because the my first ER duty, "petiks" lang.

But now comes Pedia Ward rotation, my first post was in the Nursery/Delivery room. Me and leslie were the first of the group to rotate in the nursery 24 hour duty. Our first duty... 4 catches! Sabi pa ng intern and dra. wong na usually 1 or 2 catches per day lang.. We made it toxic! And now comes the 2nd 24 hour duty... we had 6 catches!!!!! 3 of them were CS pa! Grabe! Pagdating namin ng morning we thought na benign pero came 10:30am.. may dumating na isa na malapit na manganak. After that may dumating na isa pa, na ANG TAGAL manganak... and siya ung na-emergency CS around midnight! Then we had one catch naman na dumating 5cm dilated.. then 6-7cm dilated tapos biglang nagsisisigaw, and un! Good thing nailagay na siya sa table when the baby suddenly splurted out!!!! Grabe!!! Then after that na-cs na ung emergency CS then ung isang dumating ng 10pm para sa repeat CS! Ang question ko lang dun sa repeat CS eh WHY?!!? AT NIGHT! PWEDE NAMAN SA UMAGA! BAKIT KA PA SA GABI DUMATING! And then un... natira na alng ung isang patient na eventually i-CS din pala which we passed on sa next batch hehehe

Grabe... we slept 3am na nun.. tapos walang from status kasi Fabella na ung next rotation namin.. so I'm awake for like 36 hours with just 1and1/2 hour sleep. I can't imagine pag nasa wards na ako... baka ang toxic ko... huhhuhuhu and pano na pag nasa OB/GYNE rotation na ako!!!! GOOD LUCK NA LANG SA AKIN!!! HAHAHAHAHA

This beneficiary concert is hosted by the UST Pediatrics Alumni Association and to benefit is the Alay sa Bata Foundation.

Kid Camaya and the Soulfools are the main artists for the event. Also in this event are Ms Aicelle Santos, the UST Medicine Glee Club, and the UST Medicine Terpsichorean Circle.

The UST MedicineGleeClub will be singing 2 songs and one song duet with Kid Camaya.

This will be on February 10, 2009, 8:00pm at the Music Museum! :D

Review: Hairspray the Musical in Manila!

Me and my friends (Zye, Alex, RJ, Leslie, and Paola) watched HairSpray Musical in Star Theater, CCP Complex.

Pretty excited when I saw in the newspapers that this was showing in Manila. I didn't think twice to watch it.

anyway, here's the my review

The Stage: WOW! Hard work really paid off here. It was good and very colorful. Very 60's. I must say, it's more or less at par with the theatre stage in the UK. ;)

The Sound: WOW again! :D Hindi sabog, and at first we thought minus one lang ung nagplay, but I guess may mga live orchestra playing somewhere coz we saw some musicians going home carrying their instruments. One slight problem with the actors' and actresses' voice, may ibang mahina, may ibang parang muffled. But overall, it's ok :D

The Singing: Galing! :D All of them did a great job! And Michael de Mesa (Edna) can sing!!! Wow! dun ako nagulat. Hands down kay Dulce (Motor Mouth) and Nyoy Volante (Seaweed) :D Madel Ching (Tracey) was also great! Very nice for an theatre debut :D

The Acting: I must say.. this is one of the best. Madel Ching (Tracey) did very well in portraying her role. As I said, she is good and very cute too :D Monica Reynoso (Penny) was sooooo good! And galing niya! Wala na akong masasabi. Of course, Michael de Mesa, hands down talaga. And who would've thought Nyoy Volante can dance?! Galing din!

Overall: I'll give this one a 4.5/5 stars. Why the .5? dapat perfect kaya lang was a little disappointed with the place. The theatre was HARD to find! Ang liit ng signs nila, and we thought it was near Aliw Theater since they have the posters there too. We were late 3 minutes tuloy.. Enough about that.. All I can say that this is a GREAT production. I enjoyed watching this as compared to WestSide Story. Everything was great about this musical, from the stage to the actors to the production. GALING! :D I guess Atlantis Productions did justice to the musical :D

To those who haven't watch, WATCH IT! I highly recommend it! :D

As we all know, Windows Vista has proven to be a FLOP for Microsoft. The Windows OS that gave a lot of headaches to both consumers and business industry using Microsoft as their OS. Consumers were better off with Windows XP, didn't even bother to upgrade to Vista. Even Microsoft has to extend support for Windows XP for a few more years. PC makers like HP, Dell, has to offer options for Windows XP as the OS even if they are selling Vista-PCs already.

And now, Microsoft after a one year of release and after some point of denial has decided to make Windows 7. The next Windows version. Pretty funny.. first they said that it's not a major update.. now they say it is.. I guess they have come to their senses that Vista is INDEED a FLOP..

So what's new with Windows 7? So far, it's still under development, and they are planning to release it Late 2009 or Early 2010. And here's what they have "photocopied" so far...

Next.. options for the application on the task bar wherein you don't have to view the window in order to control...

funny... Mac OS X has this one since 10.1... tsk tsk...
They call this "Jump List", where in you see the windows of one application with a click.
Pretty handy? Hmmm... I think Mac OS X 10.3 called this... Expose.. not only the windows of a certain application.. there is also an option wherein you could see ALL the opened applications, with just one click.

and they said.. an "improved" Start Menu... ummm.. what's the improvement here? Took out some.. still looks the same...

tsk tsk tsk... I guess Microsoft really has no NEW ideas... tsk tsk tsk.. Redmond is really a photocopier..

So.. Windows 7.. as one of the Windows enthusiast from (Winsupersite.com) said.. "Let's pretend Vista never happened.." haha Blocking defense mechanism? So immature..

Oh yeah.. Mac OS X 10.6 / Snow Leopard is due mid-2009. Pretty good stuffs awaits us Mac users.. Wonder when we'll see these technology in Windows? maybe Windows 9? :P

Review: West Side Story

Carmel, Leslie, Elaine, RJ, Alex, Donna, Yentl (w/ bf), and Zye (w/ bf) and me watched West Side Story yesterday (Oct 10, 2008) in the Meralco Theater.

I was really looking forward to watch this musical. And it was kinda funny because we were really praying that Joanna Ampil will be the one who will be playing as Maria and not Karylle. And I guess we were lucky. It was also funny because when it was announced that Joanna Ampil was playing that part, most of the people in the theater rejoiced! hahaha guess walang may gusto kay Karylle? :P Christian Bautista played Tony.

So here goes..

The Stage: It was... okay... but they should've done a better one. It didn't made me feel like that play was set in America. There was this one part wherein they were knocking at the door, and the walls were also vibrating! Funny.. I've seen Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo and they had better set than this one..

(as leslie, elaine, and carmel said, don't compare to broadway daw.. pero my point is this was a broadway production.. they should've tried making the set better... or maybe because sa Meralco theatre lang.. heheh)

The Sound: SABOG... I'm blaming this to the sound system of Meralco Theatre... Ok na sana, pero sabog eh... Even during dialogues, there were some part na humihina ung boses, there were some part na sobrang lakas nung boses and even the sounds. I haven't watched this sa Broadway, but I find it to have so much dead air... I was hoping that before it started may music, when it ended and they were bowing to the audience, may music din... but there was none... Kinda bland lang...

The Singing: Hands down kay Joanna Ampil, she was great.. but still the sound system of Meralco theatre didn't give her justice.. There was this part when Anita and Maria were singing together.. ang hina nung kay Maria, and Anita's was loud and halos sinapawan na ung sound ni Maria..
Also to Christian Bautista, he's good at this. I guess he really belongs to the theatre.

The Acting: Hands down for the girl who played Anita. Ang galing niya! She dances good, she sings good, she acts good.. One comment though.. she sounded like the aunt of Happy Slip...
Another thing that I noticed.. the accents... I have no complaints for the American accent.. but the Puerto Rican accent.... *sigh*, they didn't sound like Puerto Rican, more like a Filipino... at least Joanna Ampil did some justice to it... but the others... I was wondering if they had training in this... just as I said Anita, sounded like the aunt of Happy Slip...

Overall, I must say, maganda ung musical. I had fun watching it. ;) I rate it 3.5/5

And bakit every act/song pumapalakpak ung audience.... hindi naman ito variety show... heheh

I really hope that more and more musicals would be produced here in the Philippines. ;)

This morning, NOTRE DAME SCHOOL OF GREATER MANILA is having their foundation day. This certain car is parked IN FRONT OF OUR GATE! COMMON SENSE, Gate yan, why park in front of it?! Good thing my parents have already parked the car outside, then yung problem is when they come back. Low and behold, nung nakabalik na sila, NANDUN pa din ung car. We have already asked the incompetent guards of Notre Dame to page the owner of the car, but one hour has passed, wala pa din. The incompetent barangay tanod's who are in-charge of the parking were also STUPID! Di daw nila nakitang nagpark. WHAT INCOMPETENT FOOLS!

Are they really that STUPID!? Common sense will tell you that you are blocking the gate, and the folks living there might have a car that it's a Sunday and they might go out anytime. Simple COMMON SENSE wala sila!
This is not the first time that has happened to us. Ever since talaga ganyan na. Maybe the parents/drivers/students are just plain STUPID!

i don't know what this school is teaching their students.

Loved the first one, wherein they beat the drums then it lights, until the countdown! Whoah!

Loved the one with the chinese characters (a little trivia, that was what the chinese used when they invented the printing machine, mga little "stamps" with the chinese character), akalain mo mga tao pala ung nasa "boxes" na un and they form big chinese characters! And galing ng coordination!!!

My first time being late in class! And the bad thing about it is our first class always starts the day with a quiz. Got into the room and they were already in no.9 of a 10 item quiz. Luckily, the dra. who gave the quiz gave a quick rundown of the questions. Still failed it but at least I didn't get a zero on that quiz.

It was really traffic going to UST. Lacson road was congested because of the road works. (HELLO? why do that if there are classes already?! Don't they know that they are causing traffic?! Stupid Mayor and DPWH for allowing that to continue..) Another frustrating thing is that UST is SOOOOO congested already! Tapos i-add mo pa ung traffic on all four sides of the campus. Soooo frustrating..

What a way to start the day..

Anway, it ended well, because that night, the UST FilChiMSA had an Induction Dinner with the advisers at the Annapolis Seafood Restaurant in Greenhills. The dinner was good, and we got stuffed! Kahit ung si Rhenz, sumuko sa dami ng food :P

After that the officers went out and watched a movie in Rockwell. We watched The Dark Knight. And it was GOOD! :D Ang galing. I liked the story and Heath Ledger was sooo good in playing the Joker. Ibang klasa tlaga, feel na feel niya ung character. Very impressive.

Mamma Mia! Here I go again!

Finally, the movie was out. Basically did nothing yesterday and took the night off and watched Mamma Mia the Movie with my Mom.

I already watched Mamma Mia musical when I was in London. And was surprised that there was a movie version of the musical.

The movie was great. They were faithful to the Musical and I'm pretty happy with that. From the start till the end, really based on the musical. Kasi may "surprise" number sa ending ;) The actors/actresses were also great. I didn't know Meryl Streep could sing! Overall, ang galing niya! Pierce Brosnan, nice voice too, although it was funny when he starts to sing, ewan ko lang kasi siguro nasanay tayong makita siya na serious, then ito medyo comedy and may singing pa.

What I liked about the movie was the setting was great. Summer na summer. Maganda ung scenes. Nagawa nito ung mga hindi kayang gawin on stage like yung mga exagerration na ginawa nila sa song "Money, Money, Money," "Dancing Queen," and "Honey, Honey." As sabi ko nung musical, speechless din ako.

This movie is a MUST WATCH! It's like watching the musical din, but on a bigger stage. Kaya DONT MISS IT!!! ;)

One word.. SUPERB! This was even better than the movie! The songs were awesome too especially Lothlorien. What is special about this was the acrobatics in the air. Kahit si Golum nagclimb for top to down. The elves were also always in the air. Maganda talaga! Really can't describe it with words. I was in awe. Galadriel was just sooooo gorgeous! Ganda niya.. and her voice... wow!! Ang ganda.. just what I like :D

Magical! Awesome! Superb! Excellent! Brilliant! Had goosebumps throughout the show! And galing talaga ng concept nila. The animals, the characters! Wow talaga! One of the best! It has been running for 8 years na here in London. Galing talaga, the actors/actresses are mostly from Africa, kaya mafeel mo talaga ung magic from Africa, even the musical instruments that they used. Rafiki's character was just soooo funny! Kakatuwa, ang kulit talaga. Timon and Pumbaa too! Would definitely want to watch it all over again! :D Kung pwede lang magtake ng pictures habang nagpeperform sila, baka trigger happy na ako nun :D

And yun.. napagod ako haha 2 musicals in a row. Whew! :D Ubos na pocket money ko... :( wahhhh

My aunt took me to Waltham Abbey and we ate Pie and Mash. It's a very popular restaurant because it is also where celebrities have their Pie and Mash. I haven't tried it, but it was delicious. The pie's stuffings were minced beef, and the Mash potatoes sauce was Liquor made from the sauce of Jellied eel. It had some parsley in it too. Masarap :D Kakabusog din. Then after that I went to Oxford Street again to window shop, since half lang ung nalakad ko last time and I was still hunting for a shoes and bag :P

Bank holiday here in UK! This time we went to Ashford Designer Outlet. Which was almost 1 1/2 hours drive from Leyton. Shopping centre din, and puro factory outlet ng mga known brands like Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Marks and Spencer, Clarks, Ralph Lauren, etc etc etc. And the prices were 70% off the original price! Imagine sa Marks and Spencer ung mga shirts nila nasa £6-£8 lang!!! Sobrang layo na sa price natin. Ung sa Clarks naman Buy 1 Get 1 half the price or Buy 1 Get 1 for £1 only, meron ding Buy 1 for £15, Buy 2 for £25, Buy 3 for £30! Great bargain! Sayang wala ung gusto kong shoes sa Clarks. hehe So i bought my mom a pair of shoes. ;) Wala naman akong masyadong binili, just got myself a pair of jogging pants from Adidas.

I went to the Imperial War Museum. Rich talaga ung war history ng Britain, mga exhibits about their conquered lands how they got it and how these lands got their independence. Also, there are exhibits about the WW1 and WW2. Syempre, focused on their stories, konti lang ung about the Japanese nung WW2. And syempre nandun din ung Mickey Mouse Money ng pinas when Japan conquered our lands. It was very interesting to see these again, and siyempre hindi siya textbook, and we don't have to memorize anything. Fun part is I could still remember some details of what I've learned in High School, especially the WW2 part about Japan. :D

After going to the Imperial War Museum, we went to London Dungeon, but to our dismay, sobrang haba ng pila!!!! Kaya hindi na kami tumuloy, maybe we'll go there by Friday siguro. So we went straight to Covent Garden to buy some tickets for Lion King Musical! :D At last, mapapanood ko na din siya! And also there was the theatre showing Lord of the Rings Musical! Ayaw ng mga pinsan ko panoorin kasi boring daw ung LOTR (kasi hindi nila nagustuhan ung movie), kaya un solo flight ako. And what was great about it was ung prices for Thursday were very cheap, kahit nasa harap or likod ka price range were £15-25, unlike sa regular days nasa £60 ung pinakamahal and ung cheapest price was £17.50. So un, I am watching LOTR musical 2pm of Thursday then The Lion King Musical at 7:30pm Thusday din! Kaya Thursday is Theatre Day for me! :D Ubos na ung pera ko... :(

Day 2: Natural History Museum, Harrod's, Mamma Mia!

May 23, 2008, 11:30pm (London Time)

Today, I went with my cousin Anthea, to the Natural History Museum. The museum is all about nature, parang bumalik ako ng elementary and high school, since sobrang elementary talaga, pero it was very interesting because it was interactive. The usual, ang daming mga students din dun sa museum. Sigh.. sana may ganyan din sa pinas, Natural Science would have been very easy for us during elementary and highschool. Oh well..

After that, we went to Knightsbridge, where Harrod's is. High end department store un, mga branded talaga from Calvin Klein to Louis Vuitton. Dumugo ilong ko sa mga presyo.. there was this bag that I liked, Dunhill ung brand.. and guess the price.. it was....£369!!!! Kumusta!!! Php30000 pesos pag converted!!! Messenger bag lang un!!! ang ganda pa naman... oh well... tapos may mga bedsheets pa.. Calvin Klein ung brand.. grabe.. hahah Kaya window shopping na lang.. hehe

So un.. since yesterday di kami natuloy sa Mamma Mia kasi ubos na ung ticket, ung natira ung super mahal, kaya we opted to watch it today na lang. And.. it was worth it!!! We got a seat na cheap and the view was ok! :D Sayang bawal talaga kumuha ng picture sa loob ng Theatre. It was shown in Prince of Wales Theatre. 5pm.

ANG GANDA tlaaga! speechless.. the actors and actresses were great. Then encore was good too, parang nagconcert ng Abba songs hehe like Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, and Waterloo. We all got up and "danced" to the music. GANDA talaga! :D I'm definitely going to watch the movie version to see if it's good. :P

Day 1: British Museum and Oxford Street

My "first" official pasyal day in London.

Had a very good night sleep, sarap, ANG LAMIG! hehe :P My aunt bought me an Oyster Card, which can be used to swipe around bus and subway, para di na ako bumili ng ticket. Prepaid na yun. I also got a UK simcard, para di mahal ung tawag ko sa kanila or tawag sa akin.

So my adventure started 9am. Took the bus to Walthamstow Central station, nakakakaba at first since di ko masyado familiar sa roads. But it was the last stop of the bus kaya yun. Very convenient. Then yun, took the Underground and changed station at Finsbury Park station to change line so that I can go to Russel Square Station where the British Museum is.

Funny thing when I arrived at the Station, AND TAAS ng inakyat kong stairs.... just imagine.. kung sa UST Main Bldg., hanggang 4th floor kakapagod, mas nakakapagod dun sa station halos dagdagan mo pa ng 1/4 ung inakyat mong stairs, tapos paikot pa.. ngayon lang ako hiningal ng ganun! hahah meron namang elevator pero hindi ako nag-elevator. Tigas ng ulo. Then un.. lakad ng 2 blocks to go the British Museum, even passed a park. Ganda! Pics will be uploaded separately sa Photos Section ng Multiply.

British Museum.. BIG! Multi-national ung mga exhibits. Merons Asian, Africans, Egyptian, American exhibits. Nakakalula.. haha almost 2 hours kong nilibot. Wish we have this kind of museum sa pinas... hay...

After that, lunchtime, pumunta ako ng Oxford Street, puro shops dun! shopping galore! hahah It was around 3 blocks away from the British Museum. So un, kumain muna ako then lakad na. Window shopping lang. Siyempre pumunta ako sa favorite CD store, HMV, which is VERY big for a music store. And there I found a Thalia CD haha then I also bought a chorale cd too. And also, di papalampasin ang Apple Store at Regent Street! Siyempre drool sa Macbook, MacBook Pro, and Macbook Air. hehe nilaro ko na din para masaya ako haha also got to play with the iPhone! :P

So un..

later, my aunt is taking me to watch Mamma Mia sa Theatre. :D

I'm having my long waited vacation! :D May 20, 2008, I was on flight SQ919 to Singapore. I left the Philippines 6:00pm. Arrived in Singapore 9:30 pm, where I waited for 2 hours for my next flight to London on board SQ322 11:30pm. SQ322 is Airbus A380, the biggest airplane to date. And I must say! ANG GANDA! It is really quieter, I was on Economy class, and the seat is a ''bit'' bigger. 10inches!!! 10 inches LCD screen! may USB, LAN, and Video out pa. Meron din electric plug so you can charge or use your laptop.

I arrived in London May 21, 2008 5:55am.. (12:55pm Philippine Time). And now typing this on my aunt's laptop. ;) Medyo bum muna ako ngayon, since kakarating ko lang, bukas na siguro ako mamamasyal :P here are some shots.. also posted separately in the photos section of my multiply site

Was watching AI season 7, the episode wherein they sang Mariah Carey songs.. WHOAH! i must say, the two guys pulled it off! David Archuleta singing When You Believe, which was my audition piece for med glee club, haha grabe, I bow down to him, he is such a talented singer! great voice! buo! nakakahiya haha I'm not as good as him when I sang it :P

David Cook singing Always Be My Baby.. if i was there, tatayo talaga ako to cheer him! ANG GALING! I never knew that a pop song would sound so good when arranged for rock. VERY VERY NICE! I've heard some of his performance, and I think he is good. So I guess I'm counting on the two Davids to reach the finals!

- don't ask! haha I gained, I lost, I gained.. I lost.. walang katapusang cycle. hahah

2. Ano ang pinakanakakaantok na subject?
- nung first year, definitely BioChem.. lalo na ung lecture ni... Dr... sa second year.. depende na lang sa lecture topic.

3. Pinakamahirap na subject?
- first year.. definitely Physiology, imagine coming from Biology na parang joke time ung Physio kasi joke time ung naging prof namin, kasi puro sequencing ung test, tapos nagpaessay pa.. wala palang saysay un pagdating sa Medicine.. sobrang sayang ung pinagaralan na Physio nun premed.. although it was the hardest subject, ito ung basic foundation to understand the diseases.. kaya lang.. dehado ako kasi deductive akong matuto .. hehe oh well..

4. Least number of hours na tulog mo sa med??
- hmmm 4 hours.. pero migraine ang abot ko pag ginawa ko ;)

5. Pinakanamimiss mo nung premed na hindi mo magawa sa med
- CRAMMING but still PASSING the EXAM!!! di ko na magawa ito. nung premed, kahit 4 hours before the long exam, kayang kaya i-cram at makakapasa ka pa. pero ngayong med.. magcram ka, sobrang babagsak ka! kahit di ka magcram may malaking possibility na bumagsak din..

6. Gusto mo pa rin ba mag med??
- yeah, i guess this is really my calling, kasi talagang tinanong ko kay God to just give me a sign kung di ko talaga ito calling.

7. Your choice of pampagising???
- hmmm... magdaydream.. hehe or lumabas ng classroom at pumunta sa med cafe-teria.

8. longest time spent studying? as in walang break ha...
- sasabihin ko sana studying for Pharmacology Remedials, which I studied for ONE WEEK, cover to cover ung handouts pero may breaks in between yun eh.. hmmm pero ung walang break, was during the Finals week nitong 2nd year. when I was studying for Medicine1 Finals, ANG DAMI!!!!

- Parasitology!!!! :D

10. Favorite position? ..... sa pagaaral, haha..
- hmm wala eh, pakalat kalat ako kapag nag-aaral. nakaupo, nakahiga, nakadapa, nakatayo, lakad lakad.

- having fun while learning. parang not a single day na wala kang matututunan na bago. you get to understand and appreciate life, not only scientifically but beyond that.

Music - my first love, never a day na walang music, can't live without this ;) pagstressed, konting music lang solve na ako ;)
Micmic - one of the triumverates! He was one of the new friends that i've known nung nalipat ako sa Section A during 6th grade. Last grade sa elem tapos biglang nalipat hehe, and we still continued to be friends kahit nung 1st year naging section C ako, tapos 2nd year naging Section B until the 4th year. Still eventhough one year ko lang sila nakasama sa Section A, I think kaya nawalan ng SectionC nung grade 6 was for me to meet my bestfriends in the future, and I'm very thankful that they are my bestfriends. Siguro sila na ung best of the bestfriends. ;)
Melle - ang pinakapakulit na naging kaibigan ko. got to know her when I joined the BioSoc family. she made it a lot easier for me to get along with others. although nagkakaroon ng konting tampuhan, di mo yan matitiis :P
MnM's - one of my favorite chocolate. lalo na ung may rice crispies. yum! now i'm craving for one haha "Melts in you mouth, not in your hand!"
Mickey Mouse - my FAVORITE Disney character! He's very smart and very funny. The classic cartoon, liked by kids in the past, present, and future :D
Messenger Bag - what'll i do without this. very useful, you can almost make it as a school bag, a gadget bag, travel bag, etc! :P
Mac (Powerbook G4) - i know... Powerbook pa ung tawag sa aking Mac, but it's the older brother of the present MacbookPro. The best laptop i've ever had! Kudos to Apple! You make the best hardware and software! Take that Microsoft!
Magazines - very informative, lahat mapa-scientific like (National Geographic Magazine, Scientific American), mapa-health and fashion (Men's Health), and mapa-gadgets and technology (T3), never failed to entertain me ;) syempre meron ding.. haha :P
Mario - another classic! this time in the gaming world. Never a game of Mario that I got bored. nung ni-remake ung Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo DS, really have to have one! :D Great game! Kung may Wii lang ako for sure, hindi mawawala ang Mario games! :D

Veni, Vidi, Vici PHARMA!!!!

after a week long studying for the Pharmacology remedials, I passed the remedials! whew!

I was quite shocked when I received a text message that I was in the list for Pharmacology remedials.. my heart dropped.. I really didn't want to study them all ALL OVER AGAIN.. :(

But still, I gathered up some courage and accepted the challenge.. (kahit no choice talaga haha). Kidding aside.. I guess it's still a blessing for me that I took the remedials. I can more or less say that I understood pharmacology better. I had a week to study.. no other distractions unlike nung may pasok na ang daming subjects na inaaral. And memory retention is longer, hopefully. Kasi I'm not studying it just to get a good grade for the quizzes or exams. I'm studying it to understand it better.

When I was reviewing my previous exams, I can't believe how stupid I was to even choose the WORST answer, no connection to the questions. hehe ;) Learn from your previous mistakes. :P

V-neck here I come!!! :D

Earth Hour: Turn off lights on March 29, 2008

I heard their campaign over the radio. And I find it very interesting. It encourages people to turn off their lights for an hour 8:00pm to 9:00pm on March 29, 2008.

Here's something about the organization:

About Earth Hour

On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.

In 2008, 24 global cities will participate in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty, to households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.

So let us all turn off our lights on March 29, 2008 and support this campaign! :D

Reflections: Lenten 2008

2nd Year of Medicine was indeed not a breeze... I made a promise to myself that I'll aim to get all my subjects' grade in 80+. But I guess I wasn't able to fulfill this promise. I'm quite disappointed in myself... I've tried to change my study habits, but still I wasn't able to reach this goal. But looking at it, I got to learn more about my strengths and weaknesses. I found out that I'm more into visuals and I'm more of a deductive thinker. It's during this year that I understood the basics like physio, biochem, histology, and anatomy. kaya eto nanaman ako sa pharma.. I've asked God for a sign, during my first year, that IF I fail one subject, kahit minor or major, I'll take it as a sign this career path is not for me, that I should rethink my career and goals in life.

This 2nd year, I joined the MedGleeClub, and it was really a fun and exciting experience. Being able to enjoy my first love, music, alongside studying my "calling," Medicine. I joined medical missions of FilChiMSA, and I am enjoying it! Being able to interact with people, listening to them, teaching them what to do to avoid this and that. Very fulfilling... :D

Grabe... ung exam kanina... kung nosebleed ang Parasitology finals.. and hemorrhoid rupture and Pathology Finals.. ang Pharma finals.. Hemorhaggic shock due to trauma to the cerebral vessels. Grabe... grabe lang ang masasabi ko...

as I said before, crucial ang Finals namin sa pharma because ito ang magdedecide kung papasa ako or magremedials. The moment I got the papers.. parang magreremedials na ako ng tuluyan.. pero nung kalagitnaan.. parang ito ang hihila sa akin pabagsak at maging irremediable ang grade ko.. which I'm hoping na hindi mangyari..

I still don't know how to study pharma.. for the past long and shifting exams, NAG-ARAL ako. Pero bakit parang hindi tumutugma ung inaaral ko sa exam nila? Or dahil sa oversaturated with information kaya hindi ko masagot ung mga tanong. Kakainis..

Parang nawawalan na ako ng pag-asa, but I still have to fight. I'm still hoping that I'll pass the finals kahit mukhang malabo.. na sana may magic na mangyari at tama ung mga sagot ko na halos hindi ko sure kung tama...

It's really impossible to study for the finals.. lalo na cover-to-cover. one day is not enough.. sa dami ng drugs and side-effects.. imposible talaga.

Bakit pharma? Bakit ang hirap nung finals? Bakit ung mga tanong parang hindi naman common na must know??? Eh dun ako nagfocus.. bakit?

I'm crossing my fingers.. sana hindi ganun kabagsak... sana pumasa ako.. kuing hindi, sana remediable.. suicidal na talaga to...

bakit kasi naging 15% of the 5th shift grade ung MPPRC?! Eh ang hirap din nung exams nun... tapos malabo pa kung anong grade binibigay ng panel... buwisit.. sana 35% na lng ung final exam of the 5th shift grade... bakit naman kasi 50% eh!!! ok na sanang panghabol ung Research, Seminar, and Lab Grade pero 35% lang silang tatlo... buwsit.. namomoblema tuloy ako sa finals...

which reminds me of Patho finals too... wahhhhhh

oh well... FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!

Still Holding On....

Still hoping...

Pharma.. just had our Pre-finals yesterday.. I passed the exam.. THANK YOU GOD!
But still.. it's not enough to pull my average score up to passing.. :( May Finals pa.. 50% of the 5th shifting grade.. the other 50% i did okay naman.. Sana makahabol ako.. ayaw ko naman mag-remedials.. I want to pass it.. *sigh*

Pre-finals/4th shifting exams week... STRESSFUL... I think I did ok sa ibang exams.. ewan ko lang sa SURGERY, for which the questions where from.. Ano ba talaga ung Surgery 1? Kala ko ba PRINCIPLES of SURGERY.. bakit puro clinical questions un? Naulit nga ung questions nung 4th quiz sa exam pero hindi namin alam kung ano ung tamang answer dun.. :(

Parasitology.. nakakagulat, puro Malaria and Trypanosomas ung lumabas.. sana un na lang focus ko nung nagaral ako. Fav subject ko pa naman ;)

Medicine exam.. kumusta naman.. I should've focused on Bates na lang..
Patho exam.. giveaway! THANK YOU PATHO! Buti ka pa, may malasakit.. hindi katulad nung.... ;)

So basically, Microbio na lang sa Monday for the last leg of the pre-finals. And yes.. hindi natuloy ung 3 exams namin for Tuesday.. they moved Ethics and MPPRC to March 18.

A few more days to go.. have to hang in there...

Hoping to pass them all...

Sa stress ko kahapon.. recorded one song, which turned out ok. It was a Japanese song. "Forever Love" by Tanaka Roma. Of course, for my ears only.. it's not really perfect hehe you have to convince me if you want to hear it haha may isang part dapat female ung kakanta, two verses lang, did falsetto, pero parang hindi maganda.. but it's recorded for the mean time..

TOXIC!!! I wanna have a LONG LONG VACATION... 2 more weeks to go...

Toxic month this february... wala nang tigil ang mga exams.. then here comes March! Kakasimula pa lang, nagmumura na ng mga EXAMS!! especially the coming TWO WEEKS! YES this is not a typo, it is TWO WEEKS!

Nakakapikon lalo na yung Medicine 1, they just announced Friday that there will be no 4th shifting exam, kaya FINAL EXAM na daw..the ***#*@$*#, kumusta naman! From the start ung coverage! tapos they just announced it friday... this coming week is supposed to be for the 4th shifting exams ONLY! Why do they have to schedule their finals on the 4th shifting exam week!
Buti pa ung Anesthesiology, they said no shifting exam for them kaya sa Finals na lng daw, and hindi pa ito comprehensive... Why sabog na sobra ung Med1.... And take note of our Exam sched for the Shifting week...

March 4 - Med1 (8-10), Ethics2 (10-12), MPPRC (12-1) WALANG BREAK~!!!! tapos comprehensive pa ung Med1, hasn't it occured to them that we still have regular classes on March 3?!? We have 3 exams in March 3 din!!! Until 4pm pa ung class namin! How would be able to study SIX different subjects in ONE Weekend!? THE %$%&$&.. March 3, jam packed din schedule namin! Surgery Quiz 10-12, Micro Lab Quiz, 12-1, then Parasitology Practicals 1-4pm!! Tapos ano yan di na ako matutulog bukas!? Eh birthday pa ng Mom ko March3!? Can I just take a BREAK!?

"This is a paid advertisement of the Department of Pharmacology..." tapos isa isa daw kaming lalabas sasabihin "I GOT ZERO!"

and indeed... it happened... hahah although hindi naman zero sa Long quiz but we got the Prescription wrong... wrong drug ung sinulat namin.. kaya... "I GOT ZERO!!!"

so much for my LONG date with Katzung Pharma... yet.. i got dumped sa long quiz! hahah ;) gotta try harder sa shifting exam!! last chance na to be able to pass!

very interesting, because before I started medicine, I had been inclining myself to take Oncology as my specialty. Recently, there are a lot of other choices that I'm now inclining myself into, like Internal Med, Gastro (i'm taking it as a sign kasi ung 2 cases namin sa MPPRC are all GI case, then decury facilitator is also a Gastroenterologist, tapos ung adviser namin sa FilChiMSA is also one), Lab Medicine like Micro and parasitology (ito lang ata ung subject na super okay ako) haha ;) and also Radiology (because of MPPRC)

Surprisingly, the results of this Aptitude Test, gave quite "accurate" results.

APMC Medrrhythmia (Euphoria)

My first glee club competition! Finally decided to join Medicine Glee Club this school year. And I can say that I really have fun! Kahit toxic sa mga practices, masaya padin, it's not only for enjoying and meeting new friends, but it is also a stress-reliever. Singing is one of my passion talaga. Really missed the times nung sumali ako sa glee club nung high school.

Anyway, we joined APMC's Medrrhythmia which is an Inter-medicine school glee club competition. This year only 4 joined the contest, UST, DLSU, PLM, and AMS-PH. The choice piece was "Magtanim ay Di Biro" which is arranged by Fidel Calalang, which is sung by every choir. Then our contest piece was "Lord Make Me Thine Instrument". We won 2nd place.

Kahit toxic, sige parin sa practice! to my MGC family, ANG GALING NATIN!!! We were able to perform our piece very well! Congratulations sa atin!! :D MGC the BEST!!! :D

On top of Taipei 101

So instead of directly going to Taichung (where our relatives are and where we always stay), this time, we went to Taipei (my favorite city, because of commuting and touring convenience MRT!)

Been awhile since we went to Taipei when we go home to Taiwan. So today, we went to the National Palace Museum, and the displays/exhibits were different for the last time we went there when I was on Taiwan Study tour with Mic and company around year 2000. Parang naiba ung mga displays, which I think is a good thing since sabi sa National Geographic Channel, there are still a lot of the Qing Dynasty treasures that are yet to be restored and showed to the public. Marami talaga. If you'de seen the documentary from NGC you'll know what I mean. No pic taking inside the museum kaya.. too bad.. hehe

anyway, after that we went to Taipei 101. LAst time I went there, ginagawa pa, if you'll go through my blog way way back.. 2-3 years ago, i think. may mga pics na nakapost. Sa labas lang kami nun and the mall inside lang ung open. This time, we were able to go up until the 89th floor, where the Damper is located (the damper is like a shock absorber for the building. Again, pag napanood niyo ung documentary sa NGC, you'll know what I mean hehe. will post pictures once I get back to the philippines kasi nakalimutan ko ung USB ng digicam.

First Impressions: Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard: DESKTOP and FINDER

Here's a short rundown of some of the new features introduced in Leopard ;)

a NEW Desktop!
"Just one look at the desktop in Mac OS X Leopard says you’ve arrived someplace new. From the menu bar to the stunning new Dock, Leopard is designed to help you enjoy the time you spend at your computer — and help you get more out of it." -from apple.com

so what is new to it's desktop.. a transparent menu bar (but I don't really like it.. and my Powerbook G4 had the Opaque menu bar hehe so I guess it's the Video card.. at least it knows how to adjust to the system ;P), a 3D Dock, and Stacks (which I really really like)

What Stacks do is that it "spring loads" user created folders right on the dock for easier access. By default, the stacks upon install is the download folder. You can make as many stacks as you like ;)

FINDER
what's new in Finder? It has been revamped, and you could notice that the sidebar is much more organized than it was in Tiger. Hard drives are under DEVICES and individual folders are under PLACES. They even integrated Spotlight onto it under SEARCH FOR, so more or less just click on that (eg: All Images) and it will show the files on the dot! ;)
Leopard also introduced a new way of looking into the files/icons in the folder. It is the COVER FLOW view.. (if you're an iTunes user, you'll know what this is) EYE CANDY! ;)
and lastly QUICKLOOK is new in finder too! I find this very very very useful. With this feature, you don't have to open an application in order to view the file, like opening Word for documents, Powerpoint for presentations, iTunes/Quicktime for music/video files. You can view it by pressing the spacebar and it would popup and you would be able to browse the file ;) here are screenshots..

Upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard! :D Switch to Mac! FAST! :D

My very first upgrade of Mac OS X. Upgrading from 10.4 (Tiger) to 10.5 (Leopard) was a breeze! Took almost 1 hour 30 mins to do the simple update, you just go through a series of steps and just leave your mac to upgrade. And... my Powerbook G4 of 2 years didn't get sluggish after the update, it was even faster ;) Thanks Apple! :D

I remembered my MS Windows upgrading days... from Windows 98 to windows XP.. and to think that my PC at that time was just one year old! It became very slow... it's system configuration was at the bottom... geesh! I'm so glad that I switched to Mac! I wonder how Vista is doing?! I heard that it's even slow on the new systems! tsk tsk...

My Powerbook G4 is faster after I upgraded!

Desperate Housewives... Desperate RACISTS!

On the eve of studying for 2 exams tomorrow... heard the news about this show.. Desperate housewives, about a line by Teri Hatcher's character saying "I need to check your diplomas.. so that I'm sure that you're not from some medical schools in the Philippines." This was a BIG BIG BLOW to the Filipinos.. especially those in the medical fields. I can't believe that Americans are racists! The nerve of them hiring Filipino professionals to their country! Seeking medical care.. education, etc! I'm sure that this writer doesn't research well! A lot of foreigners prefer to study Medicine here in the Philippines. I bet that this writer doesnt even know that the US is hiring thousands of Filipino nurses until the year 2010! Maybe he should try coming here in the Philippines and see how medicine is taught here! I, for one, is studying medicine, and the training is very hard! It's not an easy task! But I can say.. that Filipino doctors CARE about their patient. We have ethics! We practice STEWARDSHIP. We are trained as COMPASSIONATE and COMPETENT doctors.

I can't believe how ignorant this writer is... Well.. I haven't watched Desperate Housewives yet.. what this show is about.. so I won't comment about this show..

The television network airing this show and the writers and actors SHOULD apologize. In my opinion.. it is also the actor's/actress' choice if they will really follow the script.. I think they should be smart enough and also be very aware of the words written in the script.. if the words contained are offending...

Been raining for a few days already. It was supposed to be the start of our Exams today, and classes were suspended. Tomorrow's exam was also postponed because of some technical reasons I think. So I have a long weekend! Woooohooo! :D

After weeks and weeks of "hibernation" (because di ako nakakalabas), finally.. was able to go "malling" haha, our 5 year old Microwave died on us. And mahal ung repair! almost 30% of the price.. so we decided to buy a new one. So, as usual, I'm my mom's driver, so we went to SM North to buy it. While she was buying, I did my CD shopping :P I've been missing out a lot already haha The CompanY and Jed Madella have new albums! :D

The CompanY: Destination: Bossa is their 17th album! Their last album was a Christmas album, which was released last year 2006. As of writing this blog, i'm enjoying their new sound! Salute to the CompanY, they are very versatile, mapa-classical, pop, acapella, and now Bossa, they sound GREAT!!! Definitely a must have for every the CompanY fans out there, and also Bossa Nova fans! :D

Jed Madella: Only Human. I'm not sure kung pang-ilan na album na niya ito, but i've been a fan since i bought his last album Songs Rediscovered. Haven't listened to the album as of now, but knowing him, I bet it's a good album. One of the best male OPM singers out there. :D what struck me is the song "The Impossible Dream", it is familiar..parang inaral namin ito before sa English lit during my high school days. I think it's part of Cyrano de Bergerac.. not quite sure.

Anyway, I'm gonna enjoy my music! :D

And I think we got quite a nice schedule for this sem.. although nakaka-toxic parin tingnan ung sched... haha Currently, our section have the following SEMESTRAL subjects... Pediatrics 1, Obstetrics 1, Clinical Pathology, Preventive Medicine 2, and Psychiatry 2. And our YEARLY subjects.. Medicine 1, Pharmacology, Microbiology, and Pathology... Quite a number..

Llamas was there, she said that it will be a 50-point SHORT quiz, essay type.. *another gasp* Read Chapters 1-4 daw.... waaahhhhhh can't get myself to read the book... still on vacation mode.... :(

My First Out of Town Med Mission Experience

May 18-20, 2007

UST FilChiMSA (Filipino-Chinese Medical Students Association) went to Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija for it's summer medical mission. We were accompanied by our adviser Dr. V. Lim and his wife, Dra. A. Lim. Only four of us (Dora, Gayli, Mic, and me) was able to join the mission. Konti lang kami. The medicines that we brought were sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

We left Manila at around 2pm in the afternoon (May 18, 2007). It was a long 4-hour trip, but it was not boring. Dr. Lim had lots of stories to tell. Lahat ng clinical experiences niya nakuwento niya. It was quite interesting. Madami din kami natutunan. Also Dra. Lim, who was a cytology specialist. Can't really tell it all here, baka humaba ung post ko haha kasi talagang 4 hour non-stop ung story-telling. :P

We arrived at Gabaldon at aroung 5pm. Sabi ni Dr. Lim, it was his first trip with FilChiMSA na nakarating sila ng may araw pa. And the views were beautiful. Ung road kasi was between Sierra Madre and another mountain hehe nde ko alam ung other one. Wala kasi akong digicam!!!! Under repair pa din kaya sobrang *sigh* hehe Anyway, mga members din ng Knights of Columbus ung mga contact ni Dr. Lim in Gabaldon. We were adopted by one of the members were we stayed.

The weather was humid and hot but not as hot as Manila. That night, pagod na din kaya lang nagpractice lang kaunti for BP hahah :P

May 19, 2007
This is the day of the mission. Had breakfast in the host's house, then we went to where Dr. Lim was staying, and there he was, ang daming patients! Mga 9am na after he finished. Then we went to Bantug, mga 30 mins ride lang from Gabaldon. Dun ung community na pinuntahan namin. We have to cross a river and ride a "kuliglig" to go there.

We got there at around 10am, and we started working right away! Ang daming patients! Although most of them had the same complaints like cough and colds, may mga iba na medyo complicated. It was quite fun too, taking histories. It's like practicing the profession already, and also with a little pressure since they call us doctors na din kahit we're still studying.

Mic was my partner, we were consulting Dr. Lim about this patient kasi meron daw thyroid mass.

Kakapagod! We had lunch at around 12:30pm and resumed the mission 1:30pm. May mga iba na hindi na nakabalik, pero still ang dami pa ring patients. We finished at around 3pm. And ubos na ung mga vitamins na meds namin.

After the mission, we headed back to Gabaldon, and had merienda in one of the councilor's house. Siyempre, hindi naman ALL WORK AND NO PLAY ung mission. We went to Dingalan, Aurora. Kaya lang we had little time. Good thing it was only an hour drive from Gabaldon. Ang ganda ng beach dun. Although nandun kami sa fishing village. hehe

After that trip, we headed back to Gabaldon, visited the Mayor, then had dinner. Siyempre the night didn't end. We had VIDEOKE!!! hahah Dinala ni Dra.Lim ung Magic Sing niya hahha :D Napasabak nanaman ako sa kantahan! kakahiya..... (-_-)''' and the star of the night was DORA!! Kaya alng nde niya nacomplete ung 20 songs niya for the album :P *peace* tayo Dora :P

We went to church, had breakfast, did a little pasalubong shopping. Then we headed back to Manila.....

It was FUN! Learned a lot of things too. ;) DID YOU KNOW? That eating mangoes can also prolong PTT? That is why it is not advisable to eat too much mangoes if you're on cupressin medication ;)

Bookworm mode "Train Man" by Hitori Nakano

So after the election, we went for a stroll in the mall. Was surprised that SM North EDSA's the Block has a FULLY BOOKED store! Got excited haha, went through the bestsellers section. and got interested with this book "TRAIN MAN" by Hitori Nakano.

An instant bestseller when it was first published in Japan, Train Man became a multimedia sensation, generating a smash-hit TV series, a blockbuster film, and multiple manga series. Now here's the novel that started it all.

That part at the back of the book caught my attention. This book must be good :D So I continued reading...

Reading through Chapter 1, I'm having fun reading it. Funny and smart. ;)

hahaha, first time that ever happened. Barangay pa ang nagpamigay ng 300pesos dito.
here's the story..

my second election, and they tried to buy my vote.

The Barangay Kagawads were going around here and telling to people to stop by the Barangay Hall kasi they can give us a ride to the Voting station. The school was almost 4 blocks away from the Barangay. And so we went there. To my shock, they gave this Sample Ballot, campaign daw kasi na Vote Straight 9-0 to the administration's local candidates. Ang nakakatawa, parang sabi, basta ung local candidates lang ung vote straight 9-0, bahala na daw sa Senators. And they asked us to sign na parang "attendance sheet." and they handed 300 pesos. Binigay daw sa Barangay, natuwa daw kasi full support daw kasi for that candidate.

Grabe.... 300 Pesos? For my Vote? Thank you na lang, at least may pang-sine na ako hahaha.

"Vote Buying"?????

Yesterday, one of the Kagawads of our Barangay approached me. The kagawad asked me who I was going to vote for in the Local Elections (Mayor, Vice Mayor etc.) I answered I haven't really decided who to vote for. Then the kagawad told me to vote for this candidate and his team. This candidate promised to help the Barangay if he got a straight vote from our Barangay. WHAT THE?! The Kagawad told me to vote for them, so that our barangay can move forward daw. Kahit this time lang daw na "pikit-mata" akong bumoto. Kung di daw tulungan after that candidate wins, eh bahala na daw in the next elections. WHAT THE?! What has become of these people!? As much as I wanted to help the barangay, they shouldn't be using this kind of reason just for them to get the votes and the "incentives." Sa kanya na rin na nanggaling na kaya hindi kilala ung barangay namin because we only have a few voters (around hundreds lang daw). Unlike other neighboring barangays na nasa thousands. Should we be doing this just to get noticed by the higher ups?

It's sad but it is the reality.. I have confidence in this candidate, he did well naman during his term. But if he really did went down to this level.. *sigh* does politics do these to people? But definitely I won't be voting straight for the local elections.. There are some people in his team that I don't really trust... may artista pa... tsk tsk.. oh well.. that's Philippine politics for you.

My First Minor Surgery aka the "Tuli" Experience

FILCHIMSA had it's Medical and Surgical Mission with the Knights of Columbus in San Lorenzo Ruiz Academy. It was a very exciting day since we will be doing minor surgery which was mainly circumcision! :D

Me and mic was first assigned to the Medical section. First time to do history taking and more or less "diagnose" the complaints of the patients. We were even allowed to prescribe medicines. Basta for minor complications lang like colds, coughs, sore eyes, headaches, pero pag medyo malala may doctor naman dun na pwede namin i-refer to. Parang crash course for pharmaco, dun lang ako natuto magsulat ng prescription, how many tablets and explain to the patient when to take the medicine. After the medical part, we were then assigned sa surgical section. Assist muna, then the doctor taught the procedure while he is doing it. At first, I got a little scared, parang ayaw kong gawin. But still I was able to do the procedure. Naghati kami nung isang Filchimsa member sa isang patient. She did the anesthesia part, then I did the main procedure which was "cutting" the prepuce, and stitching the first half, she did the last half naman. After that I wished may isa pang patient, I was more confident after doing the first one :D

the new Taiwan Experience

hmm i shouldve have written this a long time ago.. haha this post was meant to be posted on May 2, 2007

anyway, here goes

We had another Taiwan trip. Well, it has been part of our "tradition" since my father's relatives are there in Taiwan. So we go there almost once or twice in a year. Basically, what we do there is to visit our relatives, buy some Taiwanese foodstuffs in the grocery, look for cheap bargains. and basically REST. It's quite seldom that we go sightseeing, since we basically went around Taiwan when I was younger. And usually it's just my dad and me or my dad and mom who goes there. Minsan lang na kaming tatlo umuwi ng Taiwan. This year, the whole family of three went to Taiwan. And luckily, we went there during the weekends. Kaya my uncle had the time to take us somewhere.

We went down South of Taiwan. My uncle took us to this little island XiaoLiuQiu (小琉球) and we rode a boat. Took us 2 hours to arrive at the port and 45mins to arrive at the island. It was HOT! but still Manila is hotter... anyways, in that island you go around by riding a scooter. And i don't know how to drive one. ahah Buti na lang we were 6, and my uncle was the one who drove for me. (i should learn how to ride one! Every taiwanese knows how to ride one! :P) It was fun, there were many tunnels and caves there. One of its attraction was 美人洞. "Beautiful Girl Cave" Then may isang place na parang katulad sa Mt. Makiling, wherein you squeeze through the tunnels to get to the other side. It was a fun experience, and the sea breeze was literally "seeping" through the tunnel, kaya ang sarap ng feeling when you're in the tunnel, very cool and breezy. We also went to the beach where there is this Cone Stone.

We stayed in the island until around in the afternoon. Then we were back on the road again. We stopped at this coffee shop near the beach too.

I had a Mochaccino! :D very yummy! :D

From there, we went to Kenting (墾丁) which is like the "summer" capital in Taiwan, because of it's beaches. :D We stayed there overnight. Kinda ironic since we have many beaches here in the Philippines but still we went to the beaches of Taiwan. And it was VERY CLEAN! compared to what we have here in the Philippines. They also had night markets there. Very cool!

The next day Apr. 29
We went to Taiwan's National Museum of Marine Biology Museum/Aquarium. It was also very interesting. Being able to see the things that we just saw in the laboratory preserved. They have it alive there! Like the garpikes, the stingray, the sea urchins, and starfishes. We can also touch them too. Just like that in the Guam's Underwater World and also in San Francisco too! Philippines should have one too.. *sigh* What's different about this place is that they also have pools where you can play with the water. Shallow pool for the kids mostly, with fake dolphins and whales.
We also met a 原住民 (or parang mga aborigines) there. She was very friendly, tapos when she found out that we were from the Philippines she said that their language is similar to Tagalog. She asked us if it's "ina" and "ama" for the Tagalog of dad and mom, and it really was! They use the same too. Then she asked what "pig" was in Tagalog, and I said, "baboy" and it was the same too, although they call it "vavoy" There are similarities, but not the whole language, medyo nainfluence din daw ung langugage nila with Japanese din.

I want to go there again! :D

I got this idea from RJTV when I was channel-surfing last night. This show was hosted by an old lady, who had the strangest voice I had ever heard, and 2 old men who does nothing on the show, but to sit down at both ends of the old lady. Their topic was �Name 3 Senatoriables You Wont Vote For?�.
Now, I ask you. WHO ARE THE 3 SENATORIABLES YOU WONT VOTE FOR? And explain why you wont vote for them!
My 3 Senatoriables that I wont vote for:
1. Alan Peter Cayetano - He is a member of the Cayetano dynasty in Senate. His father, whom I regard as a good Senator, was the late Sen. Renato �Compa�ero� Cayetano. His sister is current Senator, Pia Cayetano. Tapos sasama pa siya? Hello? Hu-hu!

2. Koko Pimentel - Remember his political ad? Its something that talks about their surname. So - - - what about their name? It doesn�t mean that if your father is good, you�re good too. Remember the political satire/allegory of the old Kapamilya sitcom �Abangan ang Susunod na Kabanata�?

3. Richard Gomez -Wala siyang kredibilidad, porket ba hindi siya kukunin ng GO para tumakbo, didkit naman siya sa administrasyon. Tapos nung hindi siya pinatakbo ng administrasyon, nag-independent naman siya! What a sore loser!

Chavit Singson - He is not very credible. Although I'm not a supporter of Erap, I can't help but wonder why this guy suddenly spoke ill of Erap. What are his reasons? Why did he suddenly betrayed Erap? And one more thing, I was able to watch one of the episodes of ABS-CBN's Forum 2007, which featured 3 Senatoriables, each from a different party, and had a little debate. Topic of the episode where Chavit Singson was one of the candidates was about Corruption. With him were Kiko Pangilinan and Peter Cayetano. I was surprised that Chavit Singson was "bobo." His answers didn't connect with the questions. there was also this question from the panels that he didn't even understand! His answers were crap! I don't want to have a Senator who speaks crap all the time!
Richard Gomez - (can i also include Ceasar Montano?) - anyway, as much as I don't want "artistas" in the political realm, Richard Gomez is one guy who I don't trust either. I was wondering why does he keep on pushing himself into the political parties, first was the opposition, then the administration. What the? He's worser than the "balimbings." I remembered that he also represented a party-list before, pero natalo ata. I don't like his guts and attitude. We can all see how bad his attitude is even on television. Sour-graping on the Kapamilya network, kasi wala siyang project then jumped into the Kapuso network. As if he's a good actor or host.. Tapos host pa siya ng ASAP? As if he has a good voice.. And now Senator? Hah! How desperate...
Tessie Aquino-Oreta - First, the dancing, then the jumping to the administration ticket, then the "I'm Sorry." Are these people really that desperate!?

To be honest, I don't see enough credibility with the Senatorial candidates.. even the local candidates.. Politics in the Philippines is really really trash... but there is a candidate I will surely vote for, Chiz Escudero!

3 days.. no phone line.. the phone that is connected for DSL... nakakainis.. PLDT is really the WORST company!

Was looking for an alternative, Globe sana, I called them up, and sabi nila meron daw sa area namin for DSL only, walang phone line. Super saya ko. Then the CS noted that we go to their business center in SM North EDSA to confirm kung covered na ung place namin. So we went there, and to my dismay... we're not yet covered... argh... kala ko pa naman I'm released from PLDT's bad service... I thought that may other choice na kami.. Sayang.. But at least magkakaroon na din sa area namin.. sana sooner... Sobrang money -eater na ang PLDT esp sa DSL nila.. oh well...

I can't help but notice how nicely done Korean Music Videos are. Most of their videos usually star tv/movie actors and actresses. And usually you won't see the song artist in the videos. I once watched a documentary regarding korean music videos in ArirangTV. They said that this brought about the trend in the Korean Music Industry, making the song more appealing to the people. And I'm not talking about songs that are part of OSTs of a movie. These are songs from the artists' album (called singles). just started watching the anime and i'm liking the course of the story. Basically, a student got hold of a "death note" which can kill people just by writing their name in that notebook. By default, the person will die of a heart attack unless you specify what kind of death you want that person to die of. So this student started killing the criminals. Kendra Campbell -- I’ve noticed on campus that I frequently hear people complaining about one thing or another related to our med school. People complain about things like the staplers not be refilled quickly enough, the cadavers not being taken care of properly, professors not writing fair questions, and there being too many students on campus. It seems like some students are always complaining about something. In addition, it appears that no matter what the complaint actually is, many students always end their rant with, “well, what can you expect from a Caribbean school?” or “well it is Ross University.” Why are some people always unhappy about something? And why do they blame it on the school, even when it’s something like other students not taking care of the cadavers?

Personally, I rarely complain about anything. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve definitely had my complaints here and there, but in general, I don’t really think there are that many problems here. And more importantly, when there is a problem, I don’t necessarily see it as the fault of the school, nor do I blame it on the fact that this is a Caribbean medical school. I mean, if someone doesn’t refill the staplers the second they’re empty, does that really reflect poorly on the school? Sure, there are some issues that are definitely in the school’s purview, but isn’t that a part of life? If I walked into an Ivy League medical school right now, would I find all the staplers filled to the brim, the cadavers in impeccable condition, and every professor perfectly designing test questions and without any faults? Somehow, this seems very unlikely to me.

Obviously, my school has its faults, but I don’t see any good reason to randomly complain about it all the time. If there really are important issues, they should be properly brought to the attention of the administration. And does it really make sense to automatically blame everything on the fact that our med school happens to be Caribbean?

I was talking to a student the other day, and she had previously attended one of the top medical schools in the U.S. She had to leave because of personal reasons, and she ended up deciding to come here to finish her medical education. She was telling me how our campus is absolutely amazing compared to the U.S. school, and that we are way more technologically advanced. I think a big problem with the complainers is that they have never actually been to another med school, so they don’t really have anything to compare it to. Is it possible that the dissecting tables are just always shinier on the other side of the campus wall?

I’d love to hear from all of you on this topic -- whether you attend a top-rated med school, or one that’s not very well known. Does your med school have a lot of problems? Do students frequently complain about one thing or another? And do they always blame it on the school, no matter the true cause? Or does your med school happen to be perfect?

Quite true, I guess it is inherent to every student to complain. We almost complain about everything. Lahat napapansin natin, mga questions na binibigay sa exams, pati mga pagkain sa canteen pinupuna.
So what do I complain about our medschool? Nothing much really, only some profs who doesn't teach well. Oh yeah, I really hate it when we take exams in the Anatomy lab.. The smell is bothering during the exams, it's hard to concentrate. I guess un lang. My other complaints doesn't really affect the whole student body anyway. hehe

Ali Tabatabaey -- For most of the X-generation robots attending med school during our times, life is about day-to-day patients, disease, prescriptions, discussions, and the whole thing all over again. Not many of us dare to disclose our human emotions, and even if we do have such feelings, it’s something we hold to ourselves for those lonely moments when no one is around to see. And so the real tragedy of being a med student unfolds: the lonely human, facing a world of emotions!

It seemed like a normal shift, checking on the patients, organizing the files, writing notes, going to the interns’ room to rest, seeing your colleague crying her eyes out…

“I’m sorry. Did I bother you? I’ll come back another time.” It was like being shocked with 10000 volts of electricity. She’s one of those disciplined interns who do the job and leave out the accessories, hardly losing her frown while at work. I was stunned.

“No. Thanks, I’m ok. I have to get back to work anyway.”

“You don’t look OK. You can go home if you like, I’ll cover for you.” And I’m one of those people who just can’t keep their nose out of people's business! “Is there anything I can do? I might be able to do something if you tell me what’s wrong.”

“Have you seen the patient in room 9?”

“Yes.” A 2.5-year-old girl who has spent the last 10 days in a coma. 12 days ago, she came down with a fever and vomiting. Her condition deteriorated by the minute, and now she is brain-dead. It was probably viral encephalitis or a complicated tumor, but no one knows for sure. Her family has not allowed further investigations. “What about her?”

“She came in a couple of months ago with a febrile convulsion. She wasn’t my patient, but I remember her clearly. She was a beautiful girl, bending down the side of her bed. I walked in and called her a naughty girl!” The stream of tears running down her face refused to be controlled by the pathetic attempts made by the wet tissue in her hand. “Is she really dead now? How could she turn like this in two days? We probably missed her diagnosis the first time.” Frustration, anger, sorrow and many more emotions flooded her. I was muted by the enormous emotions overwhelming her. I had nothing to comfort her. “Why her? Why so fast? Isn’t there any hope? Isn’t there any justice?”

The truth is that the girl is in fact dead, at least as far as the neurologist is concerned. There is nothing we can do except to keep her body alive. The story had become more tragic now that I knew a bit more about her, but still there was nothing we could do. We had been beaten by a virus. My fellow intern knew all this too but … In such times of hopelessness, we need someone stronger to hang on to. All I could think of was praying at the holy shrine. Maybe this way she could calm down a bit. She accepted.

I guess all of us X-generation robots attending med school still have a touch of humanity deep down inside. No matter how rock solid we try to be, the so-called everyday events around us are so powerful, that just when you least expect it, they will push you over the edge. One day we will all break into tears. It’s just not the same day for all of us.

Two days later, room number 9 was empty again.

"time really flies" But this year was the longest year of my life! Just 10 months ago, I was enrolling for medicine, which was also the longest enrollment I had in UST. And now, we have just finished our first comprehensive exams! 2 weeks full of exams! whew! What an experience!

My blog has been left in the dust for quite some time. Only got to update it just once every month or maybe no update at all. It was really hard not to be able to write. And I'm getting rusty already! All these exams full on ABCDs.. full of medical terminologies.. memorizing.. analyzing.. it's draining my creative juices! Although we had some little creative activities in med, but they were not quite enough. And doing these creative fun things in just a little time and being paired with exams, how can we squeeze out our creative juices! :P

So here comes summer.. what am i going to do, without anything to study.. anything to read.. anything to highlight.. :P guess I have to open some of my books this summer and keep on reading! hahah just joking! Well, i have no definite plan yet, but I really want to work. Keep myself busy! I'm currently eyeing on this English tutoring job, online. Found some in JobsDB.com I was also eyeing on medical transcription. At least its quite related to my course. C'est la vie! Or maybe just enjoy bumming throughout the summer! :P Definitely i have to lose weight!!! minus 1000cal off my diet to lose 2 lbs per week! That's Biochem for you! :P Oh well..

Now.. I'm bored...

Previous research has shown that the average rate of correct heart sound identification by physicians is 40 percent.

In a new study, 149 general internists listened 400 times to five common heart murmurs during a 90-minute session with iPods. After the session, the average score improved to 80 percent.

Proficiency with a stethoscope—and the ability to recognize abnormal heart sounds—is a critical skill for identifying dangerous heart conditions and minimizing dependence on expensive medical tests, said lead researcher Dr. Michael Barrett, clinical associate professor of medicine and cardiologist at Temple University School of Medicine and Hospital. "It's important to know when to order a costly echocardiogram or stress test," Barrett said.

Barrett believes the skill of learning heart problems is best learned through intensive drilling and repetition, not by traditional methods, usually a classroom lecture or demonstration in medical school and then on the job.

"You don't build this proficiency by osmosis," Barrett said.

My take:
Wow! That's nice. It really is true. Both seeing and hearing clinical applications would really make it easier for medical students to more or less understand these things, aside from just memorizing everything from the book. And also let's not forget the applications of the things we have learned. ;) Seeing, hearing, and doing, not one less. As quoted by Dr. King in one of his lecture on the Special Senses Physiology: "I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand."

No doubt about it. But that makes Philippine's PowerMac Center an exception in giving good service to Apple users here. Wonder why Apple gave them such privilege... at least they're not the only apple service center in the Philippines. There are iStudio and Ynzal. ;)

Full Course Exams!!!! :D

Pre-Finals weeks just ended :D yup, it was Pre-finals from March 12-16th :D I must say that March is an Exam month for medical students :D Just last March 8, 2007, we had our Gross Anatomy Grand Practicals! Yes, it was GRAND! Everything that we dissected from the start of the school year, we took it up again, in ONE practical exam! It even coincided with our NeuroAnatomy Practicals. The Grand Practical was a "fun" experience hehe. Doing it the first time, was nerve-racking but also a little exciting. Yes, i'm weird, but it was a nice experience. I didnt even know what to study for the grand practicals. There were 6 stations, 5 items to identify in each station, giving you only 2 minutes to answer. It was hard. The muscles were ROCK hard.. it was hard to identify them. The organs were deteriorating, the stomach didnt look like a stomach anymore. The nerves looked like muscles already, the blood vessels too. It was a nice new experience!

The next day, March 9, 2007, we had our Histology Grand Practicals. Just like Anatomy's, only in microscopes! We have to identify 30 slides too, 4 5 seconds for each slide!!!! Nerve-racking again! What was even scarier was that this will serve as our Pre-finals exam! Unlike Anatomy, the 30 points in the Anatomy grand practical is part of the FINALS exam.

after that, Pre-Finals Week! Everything we took up during the fourth shifting period. Which is lighter. This week is done. It's the Appetizer! hahah

For the FINALS week... EVERYTHING we took up from the start till the end of the school year. All in one exam, for everything subject! Physiology, Anatomy, NeuroAnatomy, Histology, Biochemistry, and Psychiatry. the Main Course of the Exam Month. Hope we can get through this week. Grabe, i can't imagine myself trying to "cram" everything, reading them all over again, from the very start. I guess this is the test of memory recall, how much have retained throughout the year. It's like a mini-revalida for us!

And this doesn't end there. There is a dessert! The last of the series of exams! The COMPREHENSIVE EXAM, on March 26! This is like taking the boards, all the subjects we took in first year in ONE exam! Sounds like fun huh!?

So.. i guess EXAMS are really part of a Medical student's life! We live for studying and exams!! :D

PLDT is getting into my nerves....

our telephone line that is being used with our DSL is out of service.. no dial tone, no DSL.. :(( this is the second day..

called PLDT yesterday and today to follow up the repair of our line.. And still NO LINEMAN... ang kupad talaga ng PLDT.. argh.. i have yet to download the powerpoints of the lab conference for review for the finals.. arghhhh!!! files are big, and they're sloooooow to download using dial up.. what to do.. what to do...

anyway, enough of that.. baka lalo lang akong maging hypertensive hahah

Pre-finals week was ok. I'm pretty satisfied with the scores that i got. the SCOFYL exam was hard... really hard... esp the anatomy part... argh.. and speaking of Anatomy... i'm not sure how i faired in that exam... hoping to pass it.. argh...

anyway, Biochem exam was easy, most of the questions asked were already given during the quiz, with some modifications :D I did well :D i deserve a pat on my back hahah Physiology was hard, but i did get a good score ;) Neuroanatomy was the hardest! But it was quite interesting. Though i had a hard time answering the questions esp the Cases part, it was interesting, trying to analyze the signs and symptoms given, and deducing which part of the brain had a lesion, which side, which artery etc. And thank God, i did ok in the exam :D hmm parang gusto ko na din mag Neuro specialty hahaha although Onco is still my choice hehe ;) maybe brain oncology? ;) i wonder if there really is a neuro-oncology specialty :D or sub-sub specialty :P

Sony Product and Service WOES

I was very disappointed with the kind of service Sony Center gave to me. And even the product is disappointing. We bought a Sony MiniDV Handycam DCR HC-96 last October 2006 and an audio recording and playback problem occurred December 2006. We brought it to the service center Dec24, 2006. a day before the holiday. And we just got the unit TODAY.. Feb 07, 2007!!! the first week was tolerable because it was the holiday season, and it's really not expected to be repaired within the first week. But come the first week of january, still no call from them. I called them Feb 8, and they told me that the product was still UNDER OBSERVATION.. 2 weeks... I was already asking for a replacement at this time. Been following it up every two days. I got pissed off and reported them to Sony Main Office, and behold, they called the next day saying that a part was to be replaced and to be ordered from Singapore. Come one week, i called, and they said that there was a problem because the part which was the main board was displaying Japanese system, ONE WEEK again.. they come the next week, and the problem was about the video system.. PAL/NTSC.. PAL is Europe and NTSC is for Asia. How can they be so STUPID... shipping a Japanese system and a PAL system to a country in Asia and PHILIPPINES?! To my dismay, and it was TODAY, when i was going to get the unit, i saw their INTERNAL EMAILs.. and the service report.. They all didn't coincide with the reports they were giving me when i was constantly following it up. And what was worse was the part "For some unknown reasons, the customer is insisting for a product replacement!" This was so frustrating, and so unprofessional! Adding up to that was their wrong english grammar! It was frustrating seeing the Unknown reasons, because my reasons were: 1. It was taking them forever to repair my unit! 2-3 weeks for an observation!? 2. The product was SELDOM USED! in 3 months it got busted! 3. We NEED the handycam BADLY already!
Oh yeah, when i got the product.. the unit was NOT CLEAN, it looked like it AGED already.. There were some scratches and the lens was not CLEAN... *sigh*

Guess Sony is not as GOOD as before. To think of it, they have many batteries recalled. Esp. Apple's Powerbook and iBook's batteries that were Sony made! Even my Powerbook Battery was part of the recall. Sony's digicam recently had a recall too. oh well, i'm not going to buy any Sony Electronic products.. I wonder.. Sony Ericsson... oh no...

as most of you know, Microsoft has just released Windows Vista. It's the new version of Windows and they claim that it's more advanced than Windows XP. But wait.. most Windows Vista features are already present in Mac OS X! Aero UI is just a copy of Mac OS X Aqua UI which was already present 5 years ago! Windows Flip 3D is also a copy of Mac OS X Tiger (10.5)'s Expose! Microsoft is claiming that Windows Vista is the most secured OS of this time.. then why would MacOS X, in 5 years of existence didn't have any viruses, spywares, trojans, etc ? This one's from the OST of Goong or Princess Hours (as popularly known here in the Philippines) Just saw the video wherein they translated the song to tagalog. Of course, the title became "Pag-ibig Nga Kaya?" I'm pretty amazed on how they managed to keep the meaning of the song the same as the original one. And i'm glad that Raechelle Ann Go and Christian Bautista sang the Tagalog version. Whew! :D Nice tagalog version. :D At least it didnt sound corny.. :P

Still, being "purist" i love the Korean version, which was sang by Howl and J

we came across this surplus shop along the C3 road near Banaue. They have this Buy 1 Get 1 promo for office chairs. I think these came from Japan. I even saw some SuperFamicon and Sega Saturn Consoles lying around there. Even saw some japanese electronic typewriter with LCD screens. not sure if they are working though. Saw some TV sets too!! a 39" LCD TV costs around 8,000pesos only! Now that's CHEAP! :D

I was so curious the first time i heard about GMask. As quoted from their website www.gmask.com.ph , the concept of gmask is...

We use a wafer-thin protective film, 100% made in Japan , which is strong enough to withstand the printing and lamination process. This film is only a few microns thick (1 micron = 0.001mm) and is so thin that it feels natural to the touch. Furthermore, it can be easily removed in the future without any traces of residue. This material is scratch, water and weather resistant and can protect your electronic gadgets from 5 to 7 years.

You leave your gadget with them for a minimum of 45mins to a max of 90mins which will depend on what kind of gadget that you have. The price ranges from Php995 for a celphone to a whooping Php3000++ for Laptops. I had my PDA Gmasked, it cost me at about Php1345. Choosing the design was the hardest part. There were many kinds of designs from animes to abstract designs. Watching the staff do the Gmasking was a little nerve-racking, but it was very interesting. It didnt seem so hard as I thought it would be. And the end-product, my HP iPaq rw6828 was a babe! :P

it's definitely worth it ;) Next stop.. would be my Powerbook Chelsea! ;) They also have the option wherein you could give your own design :D Very tempting...
